How frequent flyer program works
The frequent flyer program is one offered by airlines or credit card operators. For each trip or purchase made, the user registered in this program will accumulate miles or points.
When reaching a certain quantity of miles or points, the user can exchange for a national or international airline ticket or pay only part of it when the quantity of points is not enough to cover the full amount of the ticket fare. Depending on the program, it is even possible to exchange for other products and services as well.
How to earn points and miles?
The first step is to sign up for loyalty programs, usually done easily over the internet.
In case of a credit card, we suggest checking beforehand which benefits the program offers, because each operator or bank has its own regulations. In general, you will accumulate points as you use the card. Such points can subsequently be exchanged for various services and products, or transferred to a frequent flyer programs, such as Multiplus and Smiles, thus exchanged for airline tickets or other benefits, such as access to VIP lounges at airports, travel insurance, checked baggage allowance, and even upgrade your air ticket so that you may travel business class or first class, enjoying luxury and comfort.
But pay attention, as such transfer usually has a cost and the points have a validity date. Also keep an eye on promotions: you can receive bonuses if you transfer your points on certain dates, such as Black Friday, your birthday and others.
You can also sign up for frequent flyer programs and provide your identification number or login whenever you purchase air tickets from the respective airlines. The accumulation of points can be for distance traveled, price of the air ticket or category of the flight.
If you want, you can sing up on all airlines programs and to facilitate the management of all your points there is an app called Oktoplus. This tool allows you to register all your frequent flier programs safely and you can follow the information in real time about balance, points, airline miles to expire, and the rules of each program from a single tool.
There are also so-called alliances (Ex: Star Alliance, Oneworld and SkyTeam) that can facilitate the accumulation of miles due to the partnerships between the airlines. The suggestion is that you sign up for each airline of the alliance. This way you will have more chances to centralize your miles and better enjoy the benefits that each one offers.
In the end, the objective of these programs is to keep customer loyal. The more purchases on the credit card or airline ticket, the more points are accumulated and the greater the chances of getting benefits and free travel.
