Tips on how to get an upgrade on your airline ticket

Have you ever thought about getting an upgrade on your next flight? It’s not impossible. Of course, everything depends on the airline policy, seat availability and the attendant working at the airline counter at the time of departure.

Check out some tips below:

Spend a little more money.

Instead of purchasing an airline ticket in economy class, invest in a higher fare category, like economy plus or premium economy, for example. The airlines usually give preference to those who spend more in purchasing the ticket.

Use of your mileages

If you frequently travel, you should probably be part of a frequent flyer program (loyalty program), in which you accumulate miles. After accumulating a certain number of miles, you can purchase an airline ticket for free or get an upgrade if your air ticket is lower fare class.

The ideal is to always try to travel with the same airline or in a group of same affiliated companies so that the accumulation of miles is concentrated in the same mileage program. Otherwise, you will accumulate less miles and it will be more difficult to get an upgrade.

Pay for miles to get upgrade

When you have not reached enough miles to upgrade in the loyalty programs yet, many airlines allow you to pay for additional miles so that you can get upgrade. Therefore, you can book an economy class air ticket and if you do not have the mileage needed to get an upgrade, you can pay the remaining miles needed to do so.

Try to always arrive early at the airport

To avoid any unforeseen inconvenience, it is always good to arrive at the airport early. The airlines use to make an upgrade list, based on first come first serve, that is, the earlier you check-in the more chances you have to get an upgrade. If the economy class is full and there are available seats in business class, the cabin crew staff may call the passengers on the upgrade list, so that it will vacate seats in economy class for other travelers.

Be kind to others

Kindness never hurts, especially with the ground staff and cabin crew. Always smile. Otherwise, you are unlikely to get an upgrade when some opportunity arises. There are people who have succeeded to get an upgrade by the simple fact of having offered to exchange the seat so that the traveler could fly alongside his wife.

We remind you that each airline has its own rules and it is up to them to make the upgrade available. WTB works with all travel services, whether corporate or leisure, and we can help you to have a very pleasant journey.
