Bleisure travel is an extended business trip for the traveler to enjoy staying at the same place, making a leisure trip as well. It is a trend that has stood out in the market and gained enthusiasts.

It is very common that the traveler  wishes to enjoy the destination more, once he is already in the location for a meeting, training or corporate event, even if for a short period so, why not staying  a few days more and combine business with pleasure?

Can the company  offer such  opportunity to all the employees? What are the rights of the corporate traveler? And what about the company’s role? Such rules must be well described in the corporate travel policy, so that there is no misunderstanding between the parties involved. All the responsibilities must be very clear and well defined, mainly as regards to expenses.

Some hotels understand the bleisure concept as a new business opportunity. They offer packages – and with discounts – to encourage travelers to extend their business trips. Sometimes the traveler ends up bringing  another person with him, which can increase the hotel sales.

If the company intends to allow this kind of trip,  we suggest that the traveler  should be responsible for all expenses  spent  on leisure , including if the air ticket cost is higher on the date he wants to return and the days exceeded   in the travel insurance. The  result turns out to be  positive: the company has no extra cost for granting these extra days and the employee feels he is valued and more engaged to work.
