Do you know the difference between ETA Canada, ETA Australia and ESTA USA visas?
They are electronic authorizations that are less bureaucratic than regular visas to enter these countries, each one with its respective rules.
ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) Canada
Since May 1st, 2017 some Brazilian citizens became eligible to request an Electronic Travel Authorization, instead of a visa, to fly to or transit in a Canadian airport.
Because of this initiative, citizens of Brazil who had a Canadian visa issued in the past 10 years, or who have a valid non-immigrant American visa, are eligible to request an ETA.
The application process is simple and has a low cost, and in most of the cases can be granted in a few minutes. However, some applications may take some days to be processed, so we recommend applying for the ETA before purchasing your air ticket. The authorization is valid for up to 5 years and allows people to travel to Canada as many times as they want for short periods (normally up to 6 months) to study, do business or transit through a Canadian airport.
ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) Australia
This Electronic Travel Authorization is for people who intend to travel to Australia temporarily for tourism or business.
If they are going to travel to Australia, some have the right to apply for an ETA electronic visa instead of requesting the traditional visa. The form is online and the person will quickly receive a reply about the status of the application.
Anyone who has a passport from one of the mentioned countries may apply for an ETA: Germany, Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Chile, South Korea, Denmark, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, New Zealand, Norway, the Netherlands, Portugal, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, San Marino, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan.
It is possible to apply for a business or tourism ETA:
Tourism ETA – The Tourism ETA is valid only for tourism trips, which include vacations, leisure and visits to family and/or friends. It is valid for 1 year for multiple trips up to 3 months.
Business ETA – The Business ETA is valid only for business trips, which may include participation in a conference, negotiation or a prospective business visit. It is valid for 1 year for multiple trips up to 3 months.
ESTA USA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization)
The ESTA is a mandatory travel authorization for travelers visiting the United States, via sea or air, as tourists, in transit or in a business visit up to 90 days.
The travelers with citizenship of the following countries may apply to enter to the United States via ESTA. Additional requirements may apply in order to be eligible for ESTA: Germany, Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Chile, South Korea, Denmark, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Norway, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, San Marino, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan.
It is worth remembering that an ESTA travel authorization only allows to enter the United States by plane or by boat. The final decision is up to an immigration agent at the entry.
